It's been a crazy busy month for my husband and I but we are so excited about everything that is happening!! Sean and I bought our first home and moved in during labor day weekend (more blog posts, pictures and updates to come)!! Less than one week after moving in, we left for Ireland to celebrate our first anniversary, which was one of the best trips ever. It's crazy to reflect on everything we've done and gone through together as husband and wife in our first year of marriage. <3 Back in the spring, when thinking about what we could do for our anniversary, we decided that adventuring around Ireland would be incredible. Sean is Irish, and since we took a very long, relaxing, tropical honeymoon, we wanted something a little faster paced with beautiful scenery. Anywhere we travel to together is always such a blast, but this was a truly remarkable vacation. We've never seen landscapes like this anywhere in our lives, and personally I've traveled all over the world so that's saying a lot!
I spent a TON of time doing research and planning this trip's itinerary. I wanted to make sure we saw as much as we could in 6 days driving around the country, while also allowing us to explore each new town we stayed in (we were there Monday-Sunday but didn't drive at all the last day, phew!!). Driving in Ireland is tricky. You drive on the right side of the car, but the left side of the road....completely opposite of America. Some of the streets are so narrow that a bus can barely pass by, and some are only one lane while driving on the cliffs. It was definitely an adventure navigating around, especially when our in-car WiFi would die or not work. But we always managed to get to our next destination!
Without making this post waaaaay too long, I'll quickly hit everything we covered while driving 800+ miles around this breathtaking country.
-Day 1: Left Dublin upon landing and drove to Killarney, visited the Ross Castle, discovered the Torc Waterfall, and drove the Ring of Kerry. Ended in Portmagee.
-Day 2: Portmagee, took a boat 8 miles out into the roaring North Atlantic ocean to hike Skellig Michael, Sean gets MAJORLY sea sick, water conditions became unsafe and we were unable to get off the boat to land on the rock. Got to take in the magnificent views though. Drove to Dingle and explored town.
-Day 3: Dingle, cutest town ever. Drove the entire Dingle Peninsula, fed a lamb, made Sean stop every quarter mile for pictures (LOL), took a car-ferry to shave off some driving time toCo Clare, continued on to the Cliffs of Moher which were beyond anything I ever imagined. Ended in Doolin.
-Day 4: Drove through the Burrens on our way to Galway (we couldn't wait to visit this incredible city) and stopped at the BEST chocolate factory! Spent a lot of time walking around Quay Street, going to pubs, listening to musicians singing/playing the streets, and had a fancy dinner at the Park House Restaurant. Went out to experience the Galway nightlife and enjoy Irish music.
-Day 5: Spent the morning playing 9 holes of golf in Connemara, continued on to visit the Kylemore Abbey & Victorian Walled Gardens, traveled through Connemara National Park, drove back to Dublin and went to the popular Temple Bar district for lots of Irish music, bars, and great people watching!
-Day 6: Explored the whole city by foot walking over 7 miles throughout the day, went to the Jameson Distillery for a tasting tour, visiting the Trinity College, went to shops and pubs.
-Day 7: Leave Ireland....until next time!
We could not be more thankful to be able to travel this incredible world and see all of God's beautiful creations. Now, to start planning our next adventure... ;) Where do you think we will go on our next trip? Let me know in the comments section! Enjoy some of my favorite photos from Ireland. Cheers!
